Another week down, and more mystery objects

Before I start rambling on,I just want to let those of you out there who are following the phone stuff that I put up here - hang in there! I've had to work on a different area this week to make space and get some shelves out. That was done today and while my back is currently none too happy with my efforts, I'm pleased with what has been achieved. It will be time to bring in a skip in the next 10 days to get rid of some   seriously rusty stuff!

Anyway before I crawl into bed....here are some very interesting things I found today..

OK So I have absolutely no idea - other than its military. Thats determined from the second and last pics - there is a yellow mark, kinda like an arrow and a number. Had to take the pics outside as it weighed a ton (no wonder my back is wrecked !)  And I am unsure which way it should face - though looking at it now, pic #4 is probably facing the right way - so tray is on top and mechanism underneath.  But what did it do?  The dial on the side says "Push to Engage, Pull to Disengage"  So is it like something guns or cannons were attached to and this allowed them to be swivelled around???

Anyone who has any knowledge on military stuff please let me know - this is a very large unit (approx 2.5 ft across)

Next !

Is it from an aircraft?  No markings on it at all which is frustrating  !

Certainly RAAF with the A.M. logo - no idea what it is - I so need a listing database !!!  Part # is 5C/430

Another RAAF component - makes a mechanical noise internally when you rotate the dial on the side. Condition is pretty good. Of course the damaged label says Switch, but would love to know what sort of switch.  Part number is 27N/19

Nearly missed this one as it was hiding in the back - I would love to think it was for an aircraft wing light, but in all reality its probably something totally different !!  Also has two part numbers which I found odd given it seemed to be a single unit - and also missing the normal A.M. and crown logo but that may have been a space issue.  Part NUmbers are GC5/2190 on front and GC5/2194 on side.

Ok thats going to have to do for today. I do have some phone stuff in my garage now, and even some car parts, but will have to wait until I clean them up a bit

Keep those solutions coming, your help and advice has been greatly appreciated by the whole family,

And shortly I will write a little bit about Grandpa and give you an idea of what an amazing person he was !

More discoveries

Most of this stuff is military /aviation. And of course any help appreciated !

Another A.M component though this has a light fitting up the top left hand corner. No globe present but must have been to light up something - yes Im stating the obvious !

No idea why this was sprayed blue !  It is a generator for engine speed and thats all I can tell - has the A.M. marking on it

This is a great find :-)  I do not know what it is, but you can clearly see the markings GUN and CANNON stamped on the plate. No A.M. marking though....

No idea what this is, other than I've found six of them - it must be an aircraft thing though. no real markings aside from the ones in the pics. Anyone recognises this please let me know!

Another day done !

Sat Feb 20

What a busy day !

Someone mentioned that they thought the shed looked big but there was nothing to compare it to....

So heres a shot with my car in the garage part - good for instant loading - but thats the width of the shed indeed...

Anyway onto the finds of the day.....

OK so I think this is from an aircraft of some sort - no idea which one. And it appears to be a lever. Throttle maybe, or bay opener???  The lever works perfectly, the wood is super light. The only markings I can see on it are :

JL5 near the top

110 on top of baseplate with an X on opposite side..

underneath you can see the notations on the plug area. There is also numbering 247477  and the note 797FG NOT ANODISED. A couple of stamp marks but I cannot tell what they are...

Anyone have any ideas???

Next !

I think my Grandpa had a secret thing for phone exchanges !!!!

So this one is far more modern, a Phillips TMC part. Would have had two jack plugs originally but the one in here works fine (on a tensioned pulley system) Switches all seems to move, you can see above the DynoTape (Red colour) number the moulding has snapped off, but its very cool and Im sure someone could use it for spares. Components one the circuit board (printed Exchange Line Circuit) are from TMC and Pye

So this is a 3 Magslip Transformer MK IV.  Aside from the broken moulding on the bottom pic its in very good condition and Im sure someone could get a replacement for that.

What is it exactly?? Don't know other than I am thinking it came from a tank and had something to do with the guns/battery/whatever they call it.. - see second pic - where the screw should be is a military mark - there is also a 58A etched there to.  But if anyone has info that would be good!!

Another one of those strange components that make up a WWII plane. I just have no idea what it is - maybe if someone sees the part number they may be able to identify it....

Anyway that should do for the week. I have a lot of cleaning of items to do now, must get rid of the dust,  and I think a decent hot shower is in order too.

Thanks for everyone's help and interest so far, its been great !

Part 3!

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the shed......

Even more things !

So this must be part of a more modern phone exchange system. Nice looking stuff ! The yellow wrapped units are either relays or coils (Im not sure) but were fitted by Lorimer Contacts, and I'm thinking they were in Sth Melbourne. Unit is made by Ericsson and the lettering on top of the relays (partly obscured by flash) is MM, MS, SS

Anyone able to fill in the gaps???

Yikes - what is a chemical fuse????  I tried looking this up online but got a reference to a page with a picture of an old phone on it ! Dated from 1936 and made by Essante in Sydney - thank goodness its empty - and I found at least 50 more of them ....

I think this piece was to do with military aircraft but aside from the little GE stamped on the right hand side of the last pic, I know nothing else....

Type F Fues for RAAF plane. Part number 5C/883 with the A.M. and kings crown logo. No further info at this point....

One of a number of AEI GRS Type M Relay Units - 90% certain they are for Railway Signalling but could be totally wrong !

Its an aircraft component indeed, but thats all I can tell you ! The round cylinder rotates with some resistance so it must have moved or powered something ......any ideas  ?????

Apparently these are for aircraft as well, though I have no markings for them. (Im only going on what I have seen on eBay) - anyone????

And last for the day - I don't know if the first box is phone related - it was made by Paton Electrics in Sydney, so it may be train related. The second box must be phone related. I have a Calls in Progress box as well but the glass is shattered on it and haven't cleaned it yet. This one has cracks in the glass as well..

OK, that should do it for now - told you I'd make up for not posting for a few days !

I shall return very soon !
